CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER NAMED “2008 MISSOURI FAMILY PHYSICIAN OF THE YEAR” BY MISSOURI ACADEMY OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS

Dr. Daniel PurdomJune 02, 2008 – Daniel Purdom, MD, Chief Medical Officer at the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, has been named the “2008 Missouri Family Physician of the Year” by the Missouri Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP).

“I feel deeply honored to receive this prestigious award,” said Purdom. “Family physicians are on the 'front lines' when it comes to providing quality medical care to Missouri's families and so many contribute so much to the health of their communities.”

Purdom began his tenure at the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center in 2006. The Health Center provides primary medical and dental care to families in the Kansas City area and rural Lafayette, Platte and Ray Counties in Missouri. Last year alone, well over 20-thousand patients received care at the Health Center, representing over 70-thousand patient visits.

“I am so pleased that Dr. Purdom has been selected,” said Hilda Fuentes, CEO of the Health Center. “His vast experience, wisdom, vision and commitment to quality patient care have been instrumental in helping us to grow and evolve to better meet the needs in our community,” she added. “He is most deserving of this special recognition.”

Founded in 1947, the Missouri Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) is a non-profit medical professional society with more than 1,500 physicians, residents and student members statewide. The organization's mission is to optimize the health of patients, families and communities in the state through patient care, advocacy, education and research. The MAFP is a chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians representing more than 93,700 members nationwide.

Physicians can be nominated by their peers or the general public. Among the criteria used to determine the awards: is directly and effectively involved in community affairs and activities that enhance the quality of their community; provides patients with compassionate, comprehensive and caring family medicine; would be a credible role model professionally and personally to the community, to other health professionals, residents and students.

The award will be presented June 7th at the 60th Annual Scientific Assembly conference in Osage Beach, Missouri.
